I've been doing the research on this because DCS has been using this for a bit. A lot of the pilots say it's great after you adapt. It looks good

Yeah - but which one to save up for. It seems the main two contenders are teh rift and the vive but the vive is 50% more !!!

I have been looking at these too. My hardware should drive VR no problem. The Oculus and the Vive have the same resolution (2160 x 1200) and tracking is about the same. In the US, the Oculus is about $499 (without hand units) and the Vive is $799 (one price for everything). This guy did a good general write up of VR: forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/28581-vr-fantastic/?p=460102As great as it sounds he lost me however when he says, "Sure, everything is blurry like you have vaseline smeared on your goggles. But you don't give a rat's caboose, because you are *there*." If I had to choose just between these two I would get the Oculus and save $300. There is however another option which some guys have are are using with IL-2 BOX. It's the PIMAX 4K (display is 3840 X 2160). Users say they get zero screen door effect. It can run anything that the Oculus can. Price in US is $339 at the moment. The issue is it only comes with 2DoF(?), not 6DoF at the moment. Some however have gotten TrackIR with 6DoF to work with it and I believe there are other 3rd party tracking "fixes". At the moment the Oculus and Vive seem to be a compromise on resolution and the lower res can be an issue of seeing planes at a distance. Pimax on the other hand solves the clarity issue but is a wip for tracking. Unfortunately, there is no clear answer.

I was following all of this right up to release date. You want the one that displays better FOV but from what I remember it was difficult to compare the the fov but If I remember the vive had better res and FOV but occulus had better head tracking and was more comfortable to wear for longer periods. Occulus will be releasing cv2 not sure when and not sure about vive 2nd Gen? Guess it boil's down to what are the flight Sims supporting more? Oculus was more expensive because they beat vive on release date. Mistake.I had ordered it around November and ship date was june. They rushed the product and no inventory so I canceled and will wait for gen 2.

I understand what you are saying Roozter. I am on the fence.
Growing up we had a black and white TV. Glad my parents didn't hold off owning a TV until better color ones came along.
