Hi Jez - Brilliant to hear from you.... I have seen this book around but never got the chance to own or read it... I think this is the book that spawned the Movie "Dark Blue World", although that focussed on Czech pilots I think. Excellent movie with some great air to air shots... Gos

Hi Gos I doubt there is a direct link between this book and a movie.I really liked the movie, but Dark blue world characters were fictional.Book tells real story of pilots from 303 squadron, and has 2 Chapters, in first focusing on characters and in second focusing more on political-historical background. Here is another link for authors page www.lynneolson.com/questionofhonor/Jez

Yeh, your right. Dark Blue World was a bit of a fictional fantasy like Pearl Harbour. Still it did try to highligt the post war political issues for polish and czech etc pilots. I'd love to read the 303Sqn book sometime. Not enough can be said to praise those pilots and those in other east european Squadrons Gos

Another good book. Every day life with the 354th through the eyes of Norman "Bud" Fortier. A very nice guy! "An Ace of the Eighth"

I just finished reading Genda's Blade, a pretty good book about the 343 Kokutai, the elite Japanese fighter squadron. VBF-12 got a mention in the book. They engaged the 343rd along with VF-9. VBF-12 had only three damaged Hellcats that were repairable and no pilot losses that day. The 343rd lost six pilots in the engagement.

A good book from Donald Lopez, a weapons test pilot of the P80. He also tested the P-38, P-85, FR-1 Fireball, P-84.

I've just finished "The Blacksheep:The Definative Account of Marine Fighting Squadron 214 in World War II" by Bruce Gamble, ISBN:978-0-89141-825-2 It clears up alot of the myths around Boyington also covering the first incarnation of 214, The "Swashbucklers". An excellent read that puts straight alot of the fiction Boyington wrote in Baa Baa Blacksheep! Gos
