Started this book back on the TOW forum. Forgot about it until I read "America's Fighting Admirals" (William Tuohy) In it Tuohy recalls Halseys decision to leave Taffy 3 and go hunt for the INJ Carrier fleet to the east, which resulted in one of the greatest overmatched battles of WWII. (Rivals Midway IMHO) Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors recalls the fight to protect the Jeep Carriers from INJ Battleships and Cruisers. Great story of not only the DD sailors, but also the naval avaitors that did everything they could to protect their carriers. (One Navy LT lands on a Army airfield and pulls a .45 on a LTC so he can get to get bombs to go back into the fight)

Just finished this. Ed Rasimus flew Thuds on his first tour in Vietnam. This book is about his second tour in F-4s escorting Wild Weasels. An interesting read.

I can second the recommendation for "Fire in the Sky", an outstanding look at the air war in the South Pacific. There is a compliment to this book written by the same author about the ground war in the SoPac, I own it but it's up stairs in the baby twins room and I dare not get it at this hour Also the "Blonde Knight of Germany" is an easy to read biography of Erich Hartmann, and the book "Luftwaffe Aces" is a great read. It's part of the easily identifiable Stackpole Military History Series. Also in that series is "Messerschmitts Over Sicily: Diary of a Luftwaffe Fighter Commander" written by none other then Johannes Steinhoff himself. It is a series of excerpts from his diary during the Luftwaffe's desperate and mostly ineffectual defense of Sicily, including the single time Steinhoff was downed in a dogfight by RAF Spitfires. A great read, even if it is a little short of actual action.

Yep. Fight Combat - Tactics and Manoeuvring is the bible of fight combat. I have had a copy for 20 years. It is the basis of our Air Combat Manoeuving Manual (Ltd Dist). I even received a reply to an email to Robert Shaw when I asked to précis his book for our manual. He also said he used to fly European Air Warrior when that game was popular. Top chap. Gosling

Bought my first copy only 8 years ago when I started in Targetware. Have had to replace it twice Left one in Alaska by mistake, on the fishing vessel I was working on. The replacement is actually back in storage in Montana so I am using my third . One can never glean enough knowledge from it. Very very cool you had communication with Robert Shaw!! Yeah like you said, definitely the BIBLE for ACM.

I finished this a couple of weeks ago. Some very interesting stories. James Goodson flew with the RAF and then the USAAF. He rose to lead the 334th Fighter Squadron. It's not written chronologically. Instead, Goodson takes his interactions with each character through to its conclusion and then take the next character. Once you get used to this format its quite enjoyable. www.goodreads.com/book/show/1869391.Tumult_in_the_Clouds

Not a book but a wonderful documentary instead. It's from 2014 and covers the Israeli Air Force during the 1948 War of Independence. Interviews with the actual pilots, most of whom were US WWII fighter pilots. They flew 109s, Spits and even had a few B-17s. If you haven't seen it, it's well worth the time investment. www.imdb.com/title/tt2704752/

I watched a German 3 part mini-series titled Generation War. Although there were a few over the top coincidences, all in all, it was a pretty good movie. Some interesting Eastern Front scenes. Trailer: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmyGPX23px4

I watched a movie titled Battle of Sevastopol. It was made in 2012 by Ukrainian and Russian companies (go figure). I had very low expectations. The movie was actually pretty good, from the acting to the authenticity of the equipment, etc. The movie however is not really about that battle. The movie is the true story of Lyudmila Pavlichenko, a female sniper with the highest number of kills. There is some CGI for aircraft scenes including 109E7s and I-16s. It is in Russian with sub-titles however Lyudmila could speak English and does in scenes in the US. Worth the watch. www.imdb.com/title/tt4084744/reviews?ref_=tt_urv
