Thanks Jak. I’ll start looking at those... It’s just a maze of variations I struggle to assimilate. I really appreciate the guidance....

I'm beginning my build today. I decided on a platform change from Intel to AMD based on the overall performance that the new Zen2 processors provide compared to Intel's current offerings. From a gaming standpoint the Intel line still edges out AMD (single core performance), but the gap has closed to a few percentage points at similar price points so overall performance is of more long-term interest to me. This build constitutes an upgrade from the Intel i5 2500k build that I've been hammering on since 2012. My motherboard has been showing concerning signs of failure, forcing me to disable all USB 3 functionality to restore stability. The spontaneous reboots may be a sign of power supply failure, but I can't see going through the exercise of PSU replacement to try an wring a few more months of life out of a clearly failing system. The only component that will make the jump is my relatively new Sapphire Vega 64 video card. This is for 1440p resolution at ~80fps.
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 MB: Gigabyte X570 Elite Wifi RAM: Ballistix Sport LT 32GB (2x16GB) SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 500GB HDD: Western Digital 4TB Red PSU: Corsair RM650x Case: Rosewill R5 (bought a couple of years ago for a home theater PC that never went forward, but will accommodate my Vega 64 better than my current case)
I have a MicroCenter half an hour away, so the CPU/MB bundle price and RAM/MB discount make the cost significantly lower than Newegg/Amazon can offer. I thought I would wait until Black Friday, but I don't think my current PC will make it and its much easier to transfer data and settings from an operational PC!

Lobo - That all makes good sense. I’m sticking with i7 but a better one...

Another question. I notice you are suggesting a Independent Solid State Drive over a Motherboard Mounted 1TB Stick? ANy particular reason?
