The following are performance tests of GPUs using VRMark Blue Room which simulates VR loads and may be a better overall comparison. Yep. I think it is a case of push now for the best and by the time things settle it should still be within capacity and has the USB to power the headset etc. So, I which 2080 ti? That’s the question now.

I think the question(s) that needs to be answered in order to recommend a GPU level is when do you plan to run VR and what type of HMD are you looking to run?
I upgraded from a 1070 to a 2080Ti because I have a Pimax 8K on the way. I was sick of waiting to have VR and took a chance with backing Pimax. I wasn't interested in the 1st gen HMDs. Maybe Pimax is not 2nd gen VR but it certainly isn't 1st gen. Maybe the 8K will be a total piece of shit, maybe not. From what I am reading from people that have them they are liking them.
Would I recommend a Pimax, 5K+ or 8K? Not at this time. They need to get their act together for production, distribution and support.
Would I recommend a 2080Ti? Not unless you know you are buying (or have) a VR that will need it. Otherwise I would recommend waiting if you are happy with your current GPU performance. If nothing else, prices should come down. I will say that the performance change from the 1070 is phenomenal.
Not sure this helps, just some thoughts off the top of my head.

Roger that and you are on the money.... I also think the 8K is the first of the 2nd gen. And that is what I am looking for, It will get better and soon... This time next year it will be ”ready” by which I mean a better head mounting system (That part is relatively easy from customer feedback) and better soft/firmware (which seems to be coming really soon). . I couldn’t afford to back it at the time of the kickstarter so I will have to pay the asking price I expect.... So, its a 2080 but the price seems to vary anywhere from £1100 to £1600 and it seems hard to identify why...

Price based on performance. I look at... Boost Clock & Texture Fill Rate.

Okay - A couple of tweets.
I’m hearing everywhere that Union is right and an i9 is a waste at this point for what intend for the machine, so i7 Also, slightly better (cheaper!) case.
Nearly at purchase time...
Finally, getting a new TrackIR 5 is proving difficult / expensive. If anyone can help with solving the continuous recentre problem of freetrack I’d really appreciate it...

I have been delayed (my own fault) on this.
Union Can you take a fresh look and see what has changed. Where things have been replace with newer version etc. I think there may be better options
Pay rise back pay may allow me to actually buy this thing (that and daughters wedding is coming in under budget!!!!)

PCs are as expected fluid. As I've upgraded I've started to lose touch with the pulse! But I have still been watching some of the tech channels on YouTube... BTW... I recommend... GamersNexus... www.youtube.com/user/GamersNexusJaysTwoCents... www.youtube.com/channel/UCkWQ0gDrqOCarmUKmppD7GQRight now I don't think it has changed much. AMD is promising but not yet proven. AMD are always competitive on price... but have often fallen short with performance. Right now I think the i7-9700K is still the better processor right now. Graphics cards... AMD it competing against invidia at the mid range level minus the ray tracing, which we don't need for flight sims right now. But the GTX 2080/2080ti is still on top for performance, with the additional cost of ray tracing. That being said... When invidia brought out ray tracing people were WTF with the extra cost when there were no games supporting it. Now AMD brought out their latest card aimed at the mid range level, no ray trace. Now people are whining why is there no ray trace. Now it looks like ray trace is becoming a thing! And there are games starting to support ray trace. SOOOoooooo... Video card is still what you WANT to spend! The cost difference between ray trace and none ray trace is wide, ie. Intel v's AMD. But 2080/2080ti is still best for performance, BUT with the additional cost of ray trace. Ray trace may or may not fruition for us! If AMD does bring out a card that competes with the 2080 ti minus the ray trace then it would be worth considering, as it should be competitive price wise!

Not what I wanted to hear but he’s right. Trouble is that can continue forever !!! So aiming to buy late July. (Post wedding distraction) An we review this around that time to see where we are.
Interesting how he focuses on AMD. I’m still aiming on intel.

The focus on AMD is because they are bringing out a bunch of possible competitive stuff, processor and graphics cards. At this time I think AMD maybe competitive at the higher level for processors. But again yet to be proven! As I said... this is the PC world. When you are ready to upgrade you have to jump in and feel the PULSE! It's always changing!!!!!

I’m having a major rethink about controls with the release of the F-18 stick:
Warthog stick and throttle + F-18 Stick or Virpil Throttle and Stick Base + F-18 Stick.
Significantly more expensive due to Tax but seems like a much better design!

The Virpil VPC MongoosT-50 Base and Stick have changed since that comparison. Also the throttle has changed since the one I have. They have great customer service and are very responsive. I had an issue with the base where it kept losing tracking on the roll axis. I told them I could handle the repair and they sent me step by step detailed instructions on what to do. Been good since. I find the quality of their products top notch, in spite of issue mentioned.

The way I am going will need mounts for the controls rather than desktop. I have seen the following: Monster TechVirpilFoxxWell I am looking at the way some of these are made and I am going to cost up a self build. I am going to down grade a couple of things to save costs as the Clamps in the Foxx and Monster are rather expensive. Ill see what it comes out at and then if there is a significant saving Ill make my own (And / or additional for those that might want one).
