ALCON,
Lets discuss brevity and getting stepped-on during squad nights or when there is a lot of pilots on. Seems like brevity is forgotten. How can we fix this? Do we break up into wings with one person (i.e. Whitey) who can talk to and listen to all wings? Is Discord capable of doing this like Teamspeak is? Why did we go away from Teamspeak? Just trying to improve our foxhole like we say in the Army.

Good point on TS3. I never understood the reason to use discord for comms
I think being together is a plus. But comms discipline is hampering it.
Reporting Quality of reporting. “I see about 7 contact” is utterly useless. “Bogeys, right 2 o’clock, level, far, 7 maybe” would be much better. Another, “I’m over the peninsular”. Next to useless. There are just too many headlands and peninsula. Bullseye is good for this but we don’t discuss it. Better would be 210 Taman 10 Angels 11”. Now at least we can get a general area and height is ESSENTIAL. Without it we just get a Q&A session.
Elements (2 aircraft) Wingman, need only speak when they see something not already reported or they have lost their leader. Leaders, call the action for your wingman, “Kluckin, coming left” don’t just go, he may be checking your six when you break away. If you don’t have sight and he does, Hand over the lead. I did the other night and it worked perfectly. Our wing men are good, anyone can take the lead when needed.
Rejoin. After an initial attack GO to an RV. Get out, RV and rejoin your wingman. Hand leadership back and get set for the next bounce.
CODE WORDS Bogey, Bandit, Friend Visual (for friends), Tally (for bogeys or bandits) Blind (for friends), No-Joy (for bogeys or bandits) Angels, Weeds / Deck, Conning Engaged (defensive), Free (offensive) Aboard (when formed up with the leader) Guns (I know it’s hard but if you can say Guns when firing it will stop a lot of chatter as a result of spotting tracer). In (about to attack target) / Off (Out) - Suggested by Stick
FLIGHTS (3, 4 or 5 aircraft) I know it can be adhoc but once we are airborne, set the flight colours. Lead (or Blue), Red (on the left), Green ( on the right), White (astern). Same was your Nav Lights. So the Flight lead can call his whole flight. “Reds, 40, 40, Go”. - double call the setting/hdg/height etc. Execute on the Go
Orders Please follow them or say why not. If Whitey wants us to RV somewhere, go there NOW or say “Unable, engaged”
Departing When setting out to join a fight. Look for each other on the flight line. Let’s set a few procedures Lights on = ready to taxi Canopy closed = Ready to take-off So departure should be near silent. Ldr climb with power at 34” until formed then 39” or 44”. That’s an inch for everyone else. Call 35” and 45” of course. And everyone can use up to 50” to catch up. Ldr should never be at 50”+ unless engaged.
All these help us to “not keep talking over and over about the same thing or entering into a diatribe of questions and answers because there wasn’t enough information in the first place and the message had no clarity and so only blocked up the airwaves with useless chatter“ !! !!!
- How long was that sentence....
I should have said:
All these help us to ”minimise”.
- How long was That sentence.
Okay, I’m climbing down off another box!!!

If I could add to comm calls:
In - about to attack, may add type of aircraft with other IDing info depending on circumstances. Others should hold fire on target. Out - done with attack
This applies to ground targets as well as aircraft.
IMO, too many times we step on each others toes when shooting as well as talking.

We need to break up into small elements when everyone is on...maybe groups of four? Kluckin' said there is an "SRS" on Discord now that allows leads to hear everyone and wingmen just to hear their element but I'm not sure how or where to get this "SRS" ? -26

I think SRS runs via teamspeak3 - So a TS3 server is connected to SRS and in DCS the cockpit radio controls are connected to srs SticK I prefer, IN and OFF. I agree Wingmen shoulder shooting is bad news and ricks mid-air collisions between ourselves...

Not sure - This would need testing

I think SRS could be a good upgrade for the squad. I've used a few times in DCS and it's pretty good. It's a tool that will help, but we need understand brevity like mentioned before. Considering us fighting in larger numbers, last weekend we had a 11 guys on comms in a dogfight with 8+ Germans, we did very well. Of course comms are going to be chaotic in during a dogfight, it's to be expected. The only thing that helps this chaos is putting out info that is useful. Always call contacts with altitude...and pay attention to the regrouping area. We're going to get scattered, when the dust settles we need to regroup. If you are by yourself, hit the deck and get to the regrouping area.
Ultimately, basic pairs is our combat tactic. 4 man flights has been our basic formation to transit to the target.
Honestly, I think that we've been doing really well... these are just topics that are always gonna popping up. I'll setup the SRS server for Saturday night

I watched the video. First impression is it seems complicated to achieve what we pretty much had with Teamspeak.
