If you take the many improvements to the game soon to come, IMO, they were done to support PTO.
One of these is the addition of separate up/down landing gear key commands. Hmmm... why would they add this? Maybe the F4F...

And add in the ability to see ship wakes at distance. hmmm...

I've done some testing of "Normal" (new visibility per v3.201b, Alternate view ON) and "Expert" (old visibility per v3.102, Alternative view OFF)). Please note that neither of these modes is per v3.201. Both only relate to aircraft spotting.
I find only a slight difference between Normal and Expert. With Normal mode the planes appear a little larger and can be seen longer beyond the 9.5km range that registers with object markers than can the Expert size and range.
This ~10km (6.2 mile) view distance is far from a distance of 15 to 20 miles (24 to 32km) that I have read WWII pilots talk about. Granted this is anecdotal. I hope mp servers use the Normal setting on the maps although the size difference is minimal.

I do find all this stuff about visible range very unrealistic. To see anything beyond 6 miles is impressive. Fighters are smaller than helicopters and much less easy to spot. In real life I rarely see anything beyond 8 miles. Longer ranges would be formations or huge contrasts. Larger aircraft, obviously can be seen further. Most gamers just complain about what they THINK they should be able to see.

Apparently the new view distance is not working in sp although a check box for "Alternative plane visibility" is available. In my off-line testing I tried all the settings including Custom and reported my results above. When I got on mp last night in Combat Box the plane visibility was much further than my ~10km sp testing showed.
Oh. BTW, I was having issues with the viewing of aircraft as they would appear and disappear while in range. It reminded me of the old CloD days.

The Clod was due to square visibility boxes wasn’t it? So you can see further at 45 degrees than ahead for instance

The Hurricane II would fit in a couple other theaters as well, including PTO.

As part of 4.001 under Settings/Game there is a check box for "Show Custom Paint Schemes". It states, "Display custom skins of other players instead of default ones."
Not sure if this is a new setting or not. Sounds like the old 1946 caching of skins.

And the next Battle Series is... *drum roll*... yawn... zzz... zzz... Oh sorry, fell off there,
I believe they are contemplating renaming the entire five battle series as one: Battle of Messerschmitts and Focke-Wulfs.
